Space nerds, take the giant leap! Designing a celestial wedding for star struck lovers

Space holds an undeniable charm that attracts many people. While some are attracted by what they consider to be one of the last frontiers for humanity, others are instead attracted by how humbling learning about space and its vastness truly is. Space inspires a unique sense of awe and wonder that piques human curiosity and the desire for exploration, and can also help people become more aware of how precious the Earth and everything it has to offer is, and why protecting it is of paramount importance. And although astronomy is guided by strict scientific laws and formulae, there's also a layer of imagination to it, as space also opens the gates to envisioning wondrous scenarios that are very far removed from everyday life.

If you love space and are passionate about the latest discoveries, as well as planning to host your wedding in the near future, you may have considered having a space-themed ceremony. However, you might also feel doubtful about it. After all, it might be a bit much for those who don't share your interests, right? Well, the truth is that it would be a pity not to have one of the most special days in your life, which should be about you first and foremost, be exactly how you envisioned. On top of that, creating an environment that celebrates the beauty and wonder of outer space fits right in with the theme of a wedding that is magical, destined, and just out of this world. You might also convert a few new people to space lovers as well.

Celestial décor
Sure, it's simple to stick a few stars to tables and add some colorful lights, but if you're a true space geek, you will definitely want to take things one step further. Make sure to start planning for the décor as early as possible, as this isn't a project you want to do halfway or rush through. Giving yourself time to plan everything accordingly and change things up to fit your vision can be very helpful, as it will allow you to come up with something that is truly spectacular. Aisle runners depicting constellations, backdrops showing the phases of the moon, and plenty of star-shaped fairy lights can be incorporated, and you can also make table centerpieces that depict the Milky Way.

If you are a fan of a certain planet, you can definitely create the entire décor based on its particulars. You can mimic its terrain by adding faux rocks or the atmosphere with fog machines, depending on the case. If it's not too much for your budget (and the venue allows for it), you can bring a life-sized rocket model (doing it as a DIY project can save you money, but make sure you don't wait too long to start) to the wedding and have it hanging above the tables during the ceremony. Using a projector to cast a detailed image of the galaxy and the ceiling will create the perfect atmosphere as well, just make sure it's not one of the generic images of stars, as those can become quite tiring on the eyes after a while due to their oversaturated colors.

Galaxy gown
When it comes to your wedding dress, there is still no way to go wrong with the classic option, even though it wouldn't exactly fit the theme. However, you can add star-shaped pearls or diamonds to your skirt, sleeves, or veil. If you're wearing something dainty, made from silk and lace, these gems will stand out even more, especially as they'll most likely shimmer in the glow throughout the night. However, you can also go for something that is actually space-themed. This doesn't just apply to the newlyweds, either, but can be a rule for the wedding party as well. For example, the bridesmaids would look wonderful in sleeveless, sculptural dresses with an ombre color palette that shifts from dark navy at the top to purple or blue towards the hemline. Tiny pleats and a structured bodice with a mock neck design would fit perfectly, elegant and feminine without being saccharine.

For the mother of the bride, something a little more classic could work. A long, dark-blue dress with tulle and applications that are reminiscent of celestial bodies is the ideal choice. As for the bride, a gown with a beaded sun on the torso and constellations extending to the arms and skirt, tiered skirts with embroidered stars and planets, or a simple, sequined slip dress worn with a tiara decorated with space motifs can all work perfectly, depending on the type of style you're going for. Your dress doesn't have to be white either. In fact, one of the preferred options among space-loving brides is to get a black dress and adorn it with as many crystals as possible, in the likeness of the night sky.

Out of this world cuisine
Just because your wedding will be set in space doesn't mean food shouldn't be a priority. The good news is that there are many ways to create foods that fit the theme. Cocktails are the easiest; all you need to make them extra special is to add edible glitter and cotton candy or meringue clouds. Blueberry puree is a favorite ingredient due to its spectacular hue. Add rum, coconut cream, and ice, and shake well. Some of the other ingredients you should consider are lime juice, lemonade, fresh fruit, and dry ice (for a foggy effect).

You can wrap sushi rolls in purple seaweed and have the ingredients look like different parts of the solar system, cover mini pizzas in mozzarella cheese so that they look like tiny moons, bake star-shaped crostini bites, and add some food coloring to the deviled eggs to make them a little more special. The wedding cake will naturally be the star of the show, so don't hesitate to make it as special as possible. You can have galaxies spreading across the entire cake, depict the entire solar system, or, if you're going for a three-layered cake, make the central one look like a black hole while the ones above and below depict the matter being drawn in. For the wedding cake toppers, definitely go for astronauts. If you want, you can also have the food served the way it is in space.

The music
The music is always tricky when it comes to a wedding since you definitely want to play songs that you like, but you should also focus on fan favorites that everyone will love. Space-themed classical pieces such as James Horner's "The bioluminescence of the night", Debussy's "Clair de Lune", space jazz (from artists like Sun Ra, SEATBELTS, and Mark Turner's "Lathe of Heaven"), as well as new age and ambient are all great choices. In the case of the former, you can have a playlist featuring artists such as Vangelis, Enya, Bernard Xolotl, and Yanni, while for the latter, you can count on Aphex Twin and Brian Eno.

As for the crowd pleasers that everyone will recognize and enjoy, "Cosmic Love" by Florence and the Machine, Coldplay's "A Sky Full of Stars", Taylor Swift's "Starlight", "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young, and Van Morrison's "Moondance" are guaranteed to get everyone enthusiastic and ready to dance. If you want to have a space-themed wedding, you will definitely have to put in a little extra work. But it's definitely worth it when you consider that it will create unforgettable memories for everyone who attends.
